Perslis · Windows & USB

Old Windows.
New evidence.

Windows 95 still carries old applications and workflows. To operate it reliably, we need to know how input devices are identified, whether their drivers start, and whether input survives a restart. We built USB Lab to turn those questions into inspectable evidence.

First target: USB mouse and tablet input in a Windows 95 VM

Start with the VM preview

  1. Read the setup notes. Download and inspect the preview, checksums and documentation. The 20 host checks validate the tooling; they do not establish working guest USB input.
  2. Prepare the correct Windows 95 installation. Use your own licensed, installed Windows 95 OSR2 disk and compatible USB/HID drivers. Windows installation media is not included.
  3. Check guest identity before running. Perslis resolves the registered target and generation-specific guest profile, checking the disk and VM identity. An absent target disk stops the run instead of substituting another Windows release.
  4. Record all three stages. Check driver state and real click delivery, then repeat after a Windows restart and a cold boot. Each result must be tied to the same test run.

Physical hardware testing comes later. No physical USB support has been qualified. A VM pass also requires retained test evidence before it can be claimed.
